First vacation as a family

On June 14 our little family traveled to Orem, Utah for Heidi Peterson's wedding. Aurie did quite well on the car ride and Rillz and I really enjoyed each others company for 4 days straight! It happened to be fathers day weekend. So, on Sunday Aurie celebrated her daddy by going swimming with him for the first time in the hotel, taking him to Utah's natural museum, and going out to a yummy local restaurant for dinner. Thank goodness Rillz is the patient type that had no problem pulling over at random places for a 20 minute nursing session! We really enjoyed seeing Heidi P. and we hope for a happy marriage!

On our drive we saw this on the bridges. I said to Rillz "look, Mormon graffiti". Yup! I am that funny.

We have video of Aurie swimming for the first time but clearly I  haven't downloaded it yet...

Baby blessing

When the talk of Trenton getting blessed we were asked by Kristi and Heidi if we wanted Aurie blessed at the same time. Rillz and I discussed it over and over. Finally less then a week before Trenton's blessing we decided that we would bless Aurie as well. She was blessed on June 2, 2013. We used the same blessing dress that my Grandma Jean made for Heidi to be blessed in. Camden was also blessed in it and possibly me but nobody knows. Maybe I wasn't even blessed?!? Lol. Anyways, it was a great day. My family was there and Rillz's dad was there as well. Jeff gave the blessing and we also had Ren and Jared be a part of it. Lots of mentioning that Aurie will be happy and also make people around her happy. She sure does already! I will admit it, I cried like a baby while she was getting blessed. It was very special to me.
After church we had lunch at the Miller's Kristi made some yummy food for everyone!

 Our first family picture

Is it wrong that I love this picture of Aurie and Trenton. We pulled the binkies out of their mouths and this is what we got! The blessing outfits together were so cute.

I love this picture of Aurie in her blessing dress

Newborn pictures

I was lucky enough to find someone on craigslist who wanted volunteers take free newborn pictures in the month of April/May. Um, sign me up!! So when Aurie was born the lady and I had planned to take her photos the following Saturday after she was born. Plans changed when Aurie was still in NICU at that time so we postponed for a week. Rillz and I were at the ladies house for several hours. Well worth it!! Aurie had been her smallest and sleepiest baby yet. So she was able to get awesome pictures of Aurie. Thanks Amber Jones. Beautiful pictures of a baby girl! Aurie was about 5 1/2 lbs. when these pictures were taken. She looks a little bigger then she really was. So cute!

Look at her little side rolls!

These pants and bonnet set was boyish but were so cute looking I wanted to put her in them. Lol.

This yellow hat was made by my Grandma Jean. So it was really neat to get a picture of Aurie in it.

This is Rillz's ukulele and case that we stuck Aurie in. Beth made the awesome reggae hat for us!

Baby Shower

I was SO excited for my baby shower. Noelle, Heidi, and Kristi were putting it together. I received the invitation and it was Mommy to Bee themed. Way cute! The baby shower was going to be on April 6th. All week I was telling Rillz I was so excited and didn't know what to wear. I also told him, Baby Aurie can come ANY day after April 6th. That date was 5 weeks before my due date so nobody worried. Aurie was clearly on her own schedule because she came April 5th. When I was in triage and getting admitted to the hospital I cried to Rillz saying that my sisters worked so hard on my baby shower and now it has to be postponed. I was pretty devastated to be honest. Of course excited to have my baby but so sad about my shower the next day. So, it was cancelled. We were able to reschedule for the following Friday April 12th. Aurie was still in NICU and I was exhausted from the long week. On my way to Noelle's house for the shower I cried. Almost every song that I listened to made me cry. It was the longest I had been away from my baby since she was born and it was difficult. I arrived at Noelle's house a hot mess! Thankfully I have understanding loving sisters that came to my rescue. Noelle whipped out some make-up for me to use (as if it really helped my blotchy exhausted eyes) but it made me feel better.
The decorations were AMAZING! The food was DELICIOUS! The company was GREAT! We played one game and it was the Price Is Right, which was totally fun! I left my baby shower feeling better then when I got there but anxious to get back to my baby. I seriously loved it though and thankful that family/friends could still make it on such short notice. Oh, and the theme changed to BEE-UTIFUL mommy! Because I was no longer a mommy to BEE.
Isn't this wreath made out of diapers super awesome!

And this diaper cake!! Come on, it's way fancy and I love the Burt's Bees products on it.
How cute is this balloon masterpiece!
Yummy food. I want some right NOW!
Awesome banner with my sweet girls name on it.

This little bee was a little creepy when I first saw it. Now I keep it on the changing table and adore it's big eyes and cuteness.
The drink pitcher even looks like a beehive. And Kristi had made all the place cards .
Party favors. Different flavor honey sticks with a way cute Thanks for buzzing by! card.

I have amazing sisters and wouldn't trade them for the world. Thank you so much Kristi, Heidi, and Noelle for a very special baby shower!

Aurie Kainoa Rivera

Our little Aurie arrived exactly 5 weeks early on April 5, 2013! She was 5 lbs. 11 oz. and 19 1/2 inches long. Her due date was May 10, 2013. I would have NEVER predicted her coming that early or on that day. On April 4 I was feeling great. Went to water aerobics, planted vegetables in my pots outside, and froze a bunch of strawberries that day. I was having no contractions or aches and pains. On Friday morning, 4-5-2013, I woke up at 6:00 a.m. to some slight wetness in my underwear. Thinking it was just discharge I went to the bathroom and slowly just kept leaking fluid. I then realized my water had broke and woke Rillz up. We calmly got things in the car and luckily I already had my bag packed and a list for Rillz of items to complete bag. Arrived to triage at 7:15. Aurie was sideways in my stomach when we went in. They made sure it was my water breaking. The nurse told me I probably just peed myself. Heck lady, that would be a lot of pee! After verifying that it truly was my water, they did an ultrasound and baby had gone heads down but sunnyside up. My doctor warned me this was going to be a long labor and to prepare as I was only 1 1/2 cm dilated. We were admitted into a labor room at 9:15 a.m. Supposedly started pitocin but found out after baby was born that there was a clog in the line and had received no pitocin. I had been feeling NO contractions but by 9:45 had REALLY strong ones. I then really had to poop. I asked the nurse at least 5 times to go to the bathroom but was told I needed to wait until paperwork was done so she could take me off monitors and the feeling would go away soon. It only got worse. So she checked me and by 10:15 a.m. I was dilated a 10 and ready to deliver! I asked the nurse if I could still have an epidural and she laughed at me and said no but you can have this baby now! By 10:54 a.m. our baby girl was born. Didn't have any time for pain meds or to even process what happened! Right when she came out she was taken by NICU staff and analyzed. They started a  CPAP on her right away but was on it for less then 12 hours and was taken off all IV's by the 4th day. She was on a bilirubin blanket for 3 days because her jaundice was on the verge of being to high. We ended up being in NICU for 9 days. Her weight kept her in there. She dropped to 4 lbs. 9 oz. and when we left the hospital was at 5 lbs. 2 oz. Those 9 days were SO long! The hospital was incredibly accommodating and let Rillz and me stay in random surgical rooms every night. It was exhausting and emotionally draining for both of us! Rillz would work, prepare for a catering and come stay in the hospital every single day. My day was usually trying to teach her to nurse, pump, clean pump and repeat every 3 hours from the start of the previous. And that process usually took me 2 hours each time. So finding time to eat and sleep in between was difficult. But Aurie is a beautiful baby that we are so proud and in love with! Also, I was so blessed to have such an amazing supportive husband through the whole thing.

The day we left the hospital. Her take home outfit was a bit big.

The night before leaving she had to take a 90 minute car seat test to make sure her heart rate didn't drop in the car. She past with flying colors!

Braking out of this place!
